About

Our History

The history of UTM Technovation Park dates back to the establishment of Technology Park Malaysia in 1988, under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (now known as the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation). These technology parks have been instrumental in elevating Malaysia’s economic structures, productivity, and national income levels by fostering industry specialization and collaboration. UTM Technovation Park is one of five technology parks established across Malaysia, serving as a hub for innovation, technology transfer, and commercialization efforts.

Key Buildings

The UTM Innovation and Commercialisation Centre (ICC) serves as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s technology transfer office. Established in 1981, it has evolved over the years to become a hub for research, consultancy, innovation, and commercialization. The UTM Technovation Park, spanning 80 acres, was approved to further enhance these efforts. It includes three main buildings: the UTM Industrial Centre building, MARA Technology Entrepreneur Complex, and UTM-MTDC Technology Centre Building.

Key Buildings

UTM Industrial Centre building

This 600,000-square-foot building was constructed on January 2, 1996, and became fully operational on December 14, 1998. The Industrial Centre building houses the Innovation and Commercialisation Centre (ICC), which serves as the main operator of Technovation Park, along with Uni-Technologies Sdn Bhd, Sparkle Precision Sdn Bhd (initially developed as a teaching factory), and several other tenants.

Key Buildings

MARA Technology Entrepreneur Complex

The development of this complex was authorised through an agreement signed between UTM and MARA on 21st August 1997, granting the lease of five acres of land. Completed in October 2000, the 35,000-square-foot building serves multiple purposes. It provides training for participants in the Master of Information Technology Entrepreneurship program, which is a collaborative effort between UTM and MARA. Additionally, the complex features seven commercial spaces, each spanning one and a half floors, specifically designed for techno entrepreneurs in IT production.

Key Buildings

UTM-MTDC Technology Centre Building

The UTM-MTDC building at UTM Technovation Park is a key hub for advanced engineering and life sciences companies. It consists of one-story buildings, an administrative block, and was initiated in December 2001 to facilitate tech transfer and commercialization. MTDC collaborates closely with UTM to support technology-based enterprises and research projects. The Phase 2 building focuses on biotech and life sciences, offering rental spaces and shared facilities like labs and meeting rooms. This boosts the local economy by fostering tech growth, creating jobs, and attracting investments, enhancing regional competitiveness in the global tech landscape.
