How We Do It – The Technology Commercialization

Innovation and Commercialisation Centre (ICC) was established to support researchers in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) protect and commercialise their inventions.

ICC was formed by UTM in June 2010, as a technology transfer and innovation business entity to drive on the commercialisation of UTM’s invention from the laboratory to the marketplace. ICC assists in the filing of new intellectual property resulting from the innovation development as well as facilitating the commercialization strategy of all UTM’s products. For more than a decade, ICC has dominated the commercial arena by strengthening its technology transfer model through university subsidiaries as well as spin-off companies formed by its academic entrepreneurs

At ICC, new innovative concepts are always encouraged amongst university residents to ensure the high spirit of entrepreneurship, especially the Quadruple Helix Model where the interaction between Government, Academia, Industry and Civil Society are stressed upon to ensure the successful emergence of industry-university business collaborations and knowledge transfer process. Here, each entity/stakeholders work closely with the Student Innovation Office and the Entrepreneurship Centre to inspire and produce the new generation of Innopreneurs.
