JOHOR BAHRU, 5 March 2013: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Taiba Care, the provider of healthcare and education business in Saudi Arabia will work together to implement UTM’s halal certification and halal accreditation related technologies in Madinah for the benefit of the locals and Muslims consumption worldwide.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the global engagement was signed in UTM Johor Bahru between both organisations, with the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research & Innovation, Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd. Azraai Kassim representing UTM in the exchange of agreement.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)’s prominent expertise in the area of Islamic Sciences including various R&d development on Halal Food Products and halal accreditation related technologies has attracted Taiba Care to launch a project on Halal Meats Products. Taiba Care has been honoured to credit and utilize UTM’s technologies in the form of beneficial partnership with UTM to further develop and implement the halal related technologies locally in Madina. Taibah Care believes that UTM via CFirst (UTM Centre of Science Fiqh and Technology) as one of the centre of excellence in the premier Research University will  effectively assist Taiba Care and Muslims worldwide in achieving the goals and initiate solid base for the Halal Meat Products to the Islamic world and particularly the Islamic Communities in non-Islamic countries worldwide.  Amongst the areas of collaboration include,

– Build strategic partnership between UTM and Taiba Care to establish a collaborative body for certification and accreditation of Halal products

– Establish collaboration pathways with Islamic organisation in Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries that aims to initiate the following committees:

– Scientific Committees

– Fatwa Committee

– Research and prepare the accreditation standards necessary for all types of products

– Launching an office for the purpose of managing Halal Project in Madina, Saudi Arabia

– Worldwide Marketing activities (Annual activities)

Amongst the UTM experts involved in the projects are Dr. Farawahida binti Mohd Yusof from the CFiRST UTM Centre of Excellence and Dr. Mohd Iskandar Ilyas Tan from the Faculty of Computing UTM, Dr. Arif Salleh bin Rosman, Dr. Tamar Jaya bin Nizar, Dr. Siti Norlina binti Mohamad, Shahrel Ahmad bin Shuhel Ahmad and Dr. Mohd Al’Ikhsan bin Ghazali. The effort for the collaboration was brought about by the UTM Innovation and Commercialisation Centre which is a unit responsible for the all the efforts in accelerating UTM’s R&D products’ commercialization process with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arham Abdullah, the UTM ICC Deputy Director of Innovation witnessing the event.
